On January 5, 2026, Nestlé issued a public recall of infant formula from certain batches of the BEBA and ALFAMINO products.
The recall is a precautionary measure due to the possible presence of cereulide in one of the ingredients supplied by a vendor. Cereulide is a toxin produced by the microorganism Bacillus cereus.
Investigations by AGES and the relevant food safety authorities have shown that the affected products were also on the market in Austria. However, the detected levels of cereulide were so low that there is no health risk.
The affected products were already removed from the market over the Christmas holidays and are no longer available in stores. A list of the affected products can be found on the company's website.
Is there a risk to infants?
The detected levels of cereulide are so low that they pose no health risk. However, even the smallest amounts of this substance have no place in infant formula, which is why the recall was issued.
To date, no cases of illness or symptoms related to the consumption of the affected products have been confirmed internationally.
I have this product at home—what should I do now?
If you have purchased one or more of the products listed below with the corresponding lot numbers/best-by dates, do not feed them to your infants. You can return the products to the store where you purchased them. The purchase price will be refunded even without a receipt.
My baby has diarrhea/is vomiting. What should I do?
If your baby is vomiting or has diarrhea, be sure to see a pediatrician or go to the emergency room. These symptoms can lead to complications very quickly, especially in infants. It doesn’t matter what caused the diarrhea or vomiting.
