About us

This website is a source of information for (expectant) parents and relatives as well as for interested citizens and professionals. The federal initiative "Richtig Essen von Anfang an!" offers scientifically based and standardised nutritional recommendations for pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers and children aged 0 to 10.

You will also find recipes, videos and lots of practical tips based on the nationwide recommendations. The Austrian Health Insurance Fund (ÖGK) offers free counselling services in every federal state

Pregnancy

Eating a healthy and varied diet during pregnancy has long-term positive effects on the health and well-being of both mother and child. Women who pay attention to a healthy diet before and during pregnancy create the best conditions for the child's development in the womb.

Here you will find nutritional information for the period of pregnancy.

Lactation period

When breastfeeding, it is particularly important for the mother to eat a varied, balanced and regular diet. In this way, she provides herself with sufficient energy and nutrients, as well as the baby through breast milk. If you are not breastfeeding or only partially breastfeeding, infant formula is a suitable substitute for breast milk.

Complementary food

Around the 6th month of life (between 17 and 26 weeks), breast milk or infant formula alone is no longer sufficient to meet the baby's energy and nutrient requirements. It then needs additional food, which is called complementary food.

Growing up healthy

At around twelve months, i.e. around their first birthday, a child can, with a few exceptions, already eat the same foods as their family. They slowly learn to eat independently - from chewing solid foods to handling plates, cups and cutlery correctly. Later on, children spend a lot of time in kindergarten and school. There too, balanced, shared meals make a significant contribution to health and well-being.
